Choosing the right tiles
In my previous post, we understood the basic categories for tiles. If you are confused about choosing the tiles for that small area that you are renovating, let me do my bit in helping you understand which tile would work the best.
- Indoor spaces with less natural light- High glaze vitrified tile in areas where you don’t expect water spillage. A light colored Matt vitrified tile will be the safest option for any space, especially the darker areas.
- Indoor space with plenty of natural light- Matt vitrified tile in any colour would be a good option. If you want to create an unusual look, you may try experimenting with terracotta coloured rustic finish vitrified or may be vitrified wooden planks.
- Terraces/ Balconies- Ceramic/ Matt vitrified tiles should work well here. Again, try experimenting with different motifs, colors of tiles to make the area lively or simply border the sides with dark tiles. Personally, I love terracotta tiles on the terraces to complement the greenery added later with the plant pots.
- Entrance Hallway/ Foyer– Matt vitrified should be the best option here. This is the most important area of the house and creates the first impression. Keep in mind that the area is heavy duty and prone to scratching due to the movement of anything ranging from mowers to almirahs. Hence ceramic tiles are a big no-no.
- Toilets/ Laundry or any other wet areas in the house – Any of the Matt surfaces should be fine for the floor. You can choose the tile finish as per your theme.
